Our first jewelry workshop was a smash! Liz Jonas drove up from San Clemente and Christine sacrificed a Lady Gaga show at Coachella to join a dozen of us as we learned the difficult-simple art of hand knotting and beading a necklace. Liz reminded us that her background is in studio arts – she's a former sculptor who transitioned into beading as a more portable means of creative expression. :-)
We each chose a pendant, then knotted and wrapped waxed linen cord around black onyx or brown beads, added accent beads if we wanted to, and tried to mind our P's and Q's. That last part will be funny when you join us at the next class! I was thrilled to be challenged – I admit I had to start over 3 times! – and recognized the artistic vision and dexterity required to make a truly "professional" finished piece. Liz had a number of additional lessons to impart – there are an infinite number of ways to combine, knot, arrange, and finish a piece. Our second class in June is already sold out, but we're already negotiating a Fall class. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this creative afternoon!
