How does shipping work? We currently limit shipping to addresses in the United States. We're excited to announce that as of Feb 2015 we are now shipping to Hawaii and Alaska! We ship via USPS Two-Day. We will do our best to get shipments out the next (business) day after your order is received, although it might take us an extra day or two depending on the number of orders we receive. We generally charge a flat rate of $8, $10, or $14 depending on the weight - some packages to the East Coast will be a few dollars more.
How can I pay? We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
What is the focus of Akogare Trading Company? Akogare was envisioned as an opportunity for us to share things that delight and enchant us – some we discover, some we create ourselves. Most are hand-crafted items for the home, garden, or self. Some items are useful, while some are simply beautiful. All are unique items, created by artist-friends, or discovered in our travels, as well as some found items that called out to be brought back with us and offered to an equally charmed friend or aficionado. We’ve designed a few of the pieces ourselves. Our intention is to offer a very small number of things we like – items that resonate in some way – through the application of an ages-old craft technique, or a striking design, or a patina of use. Items that tell a story, and are meant to endure.
Where does the name Akogare Trading Company come from? Akogare Trading Company melds the backgrounds and interests of the two principals, and derives both from a Japanese word that encompasses nostalgia, wistfulness, and a sense of love for things that remain in one's heart with an Old West word for a shop . . . Both have roots in the “old ways” of being, with a focus on cultural traditions and the importance of personal relationship. Although in our contemporary lives these transactions are cash-based, the idea of all of us as creators and artists of one kind or another, creating a life and a home for our families, our friends, and ourselves, either through the work we do, the things we build, or the people we care for and nurture, remains true. So Akogare Trading Company is where Lesley and Jane, and the friends and colleagues we’ve made through the fabric of our professional and personal lives, can come together to share ideas and things of beauty and endurance. A place that celebrates the mingling of nostalgia and desire.
